The main aim of this simple food guide, which complements the section on Diet in the book How to Die Young at Ninety, is to make "eating sensibly" more tempting and less difficult, by listing a wide selection of especially thought out, simple recipes for tasty whole food dishes that are inexpensive and easy to prepare. They are cooked with virtually no fat, sugar or salt, which makes them non-fattening; at the same time they are planned to contain, per calorie consumed, a very high fibre, protein, vitamin and mineral percentage, which makes them extremely nutritious It is this rare dietary combination of being simultaneously low calorie, fibre rich and nutritious yet still mouth watering, that makes them such an ideal health food for everyone. Since it is what we eat during our lifetime that influences the probability of developing cancer, (as well as heart disease, high blood pressure, strokes and diabetes), the single most effective way of reducing this probability is to "eat sensibly".
